Volunteering and Employment

DID YOU KNOW? Volunteering can increase your chances of finding employment.

Volunteers have a 27% higher likelihood of finding a job after being out of work compared to non-volunteers. (CNCS, 2024)

1.) Make Connections

Sometimes, knowing the right people can help you find a job or break into a new industry. Volunteering can help you connect with new people and expand your professional network, especially if you’re volunteering for an organization that is related to your desired career.

2.) Develop Skills

Volunteering can also help you develop skills that make you more attractive to employers. Many nonprofits need volunteers with accounting, management, and event planning skills. Soft skills such as leadership, organization, and communication can also be developed through volunteering!

3.) Gain Experience

Depending on your chosen career, volunteering can also help you gain experience to add to your resume. According to Deloitte, 76% of HR executives believe it makes a candidate more desirable.

4.) Boost Mental Health

The job search can be long, difficult, and mentally taxing. Volunteering can help decrease depression, loneliness, and stress by keeping you active and giving you a sense of purpose. (The Mayo Clinic, 2024)
