Immigrants as WORKERS
Immigrants make up over 19% of the U.S. labor force, filling critical positions in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and construction (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Immigrants as CONSUMERS
Immigrants also stimulate the economy by buying goods and services. According to survey data from the American Community Survey, immigrants wielded approximately $1.3 trillion in spending power. (Joint Economic Committee, American Community Survey).
Immigrants as ENTREPRENUERS
Immigrant Americans start businesses at a higher rate than their native-born counterparts. In 2021, 1 in 5 entrepreneurs were immigrants, generating a whopping 95.6 trillion in business income! (American Immigration Council).
Immigrants as TAXPAYERS
Immigrants contribute to government revenue through taxes. In 2022, the federal government collected $569 billion from immigrant households. That’s almost 1 in 6 tax dollars paid that year! (American Immigration Council, American Community Survey).
While anti-immigration sentiments in the U.S. are currently growing, it’s important to remember the variety of ways they positively contribute to the U.S. economy. They pay taxes, spend money, fill labor needs, and can even create jobs by starting their own businesses.
