Since DACA was threatened to be ended in 2017, the futures of thousands of Dreamers have been put in limbo. It was a long battle for Dreamers and supporters alike, as they fought to save DACA. DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is a policy initiated by former President Obama in 2012, which granted young immigrants protection from deportation and a work permit. Since then, it has permitted these young students the opportunity to reach their dreams and goals.

The long battle offered some hope last month when the Supreme Court blocked the administration’s efforts to end DACA. On Friday, July 17, a federal judge ruled that the program must be restored to its status prior to 2017.

Ever since the Supreme Court blocked the ending of DACA last month, some new DACA applicants have sent in initial applications to USCIS. An example is Arlette Morales, who checks her email consistently to see if she has gotten a response about her application. She expresses how it is difficult now knowing if USCIS will accept her application. However, she is still hopeful. The big question is: Will the Trump administration accept the applications new applicants are starting to send?

So far, the only update from USCIS is that they are reviewing the decision. Despite the uncertainty, new DACA applicants continue to stay hopeful.
