Governor Gavin Newsom announced for some retail stores to reopen with some modifications. Some stores that can reopen for pickup are bookstores, music stores, toy stores, florists, sporting goods retailers, and others. Manufacturing and logistics can resume in the retail supply chain. According to the Governor, more details on the businesses that can resume operation will be released later this week. This is part of a four-stage plan to that he laid out last week to help us gradually transition to normal life soon. There have been 3.5 million claims for unemployment benefits since March 14. However, “State officials cautioned office buildings, shopping malls and restaurant dining rooms will not be reopened Friday, but later on in Stage 2.” (P.10). Stage 3 will not begin until a few months and this includes hair salons, gyms, sports competitions, and religious services. As California eases stay-at-home orders and business closures, safeguards will be put in place to ensure the safety of all, according to State Public Health Officer Sonia Angell. 23 counties in California are currently tracking Covid 19 cases. The reason for California easing its restrictions is because residents are faithful in following the stay-at-home order and maintaining social distancing. Until then, let us continue with hope and faith as we await the end of this pandemic.
