For J1 VISAS Being Suspended; what are your options?

The US has temporarily suspended the J1 internship programs for some trainees due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. US President Donald Trump has declared Covid-19 a national emergency when he gave a statement for the people of the United States. He plans to give $50 billion in funds to help in the fighting the pandemic. The number of cases caused by Covid-19 in the US continues to increase. A statement from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State said, “it would temporarily suspend a number of programs, including the J1 summer visa, for 60 days.” (McDermott, There are of course many questions regards to what is going to happen during this period of suspension for J1 trainees such as whether their program is ending and what will happen as they continue their program. In the same article, there is a statement made by the travel agency called USIT that is in charge of the administration for the visa in Ireland would have to look at all the applications and give the applicants some guidance into the situation going on. USIT stated that, “We will be in a position to do this once we receive further instruction on how to progress from our US sponsors and we expect to have another update to share with you next week,” (McDermott, As of March 20, 2020, U.S. embassies and consulates have suspended all routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services. Routine visa services will continue as soon as possible, but there is no specific time given when the program will continue after the pandemic. (
